Monday

Boy what a day! Today our group was treated with a delicious breakfast of pancakes. Appreciation of that breakfast was expounded once we took our visit to the dump. It is hard to imagine that this is the only food that so many families have to eat:( our meatless diet here is a feast in comparison. After we made our stop to the dump we visited the boys at Only One Child. It was a true testament to the power of one persons ability to change the lives of so many even if it's but only 8 at a time. When we returned to the ministry house we enjoyed a lunch with the missionaries! This was a wonderful time of fellowship. We shared lots of laughs and exchanged stories about one an other's families. It was a time I am sure we will treasure. The missionaries here have an obvious anointing to do the work they have been called to do.
One of the definite highlights of everyone's day were the home visits. We all came back with stories of amazement, not at the conditions that these families live in, but at the joy in their heart and their faith and trust in God despite their circumstances. I don't think anyone left their visit unchanged. My prayer is that we are touching and helping them as much as they are us. How can you not leave changed from something like that? Our hearts just received new members and it's impossible to be the same!
Everyone mustered up enough strength to make it through our nightly devotions and time of reflection and we are preparing for our busy day tomorrow. The combination of excitement and being tired has left us vulnerable yet willing. Lord take us where you will and let us always be willing.

Goodnight to all! Thanks for the prayers, please keep them coming. Tomorrow promises to bring it's own treasures! God Bless

This morning many of us experienced our first earthquake. It was a rather large one, but was focused in other parts of Guatemala so we only felt a little shaking. After a grab and go breakfast of fruit and cereal, Carlos led devotion. He reminded everyone to acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and moved us with his beautiful singing. We took about an hour's drive to Gonzalez Park in the vans. Sharon got to meet her sponsor child this morning, which she enjoyed very much. A group of us also went to visit Pastor Steve's sponsor child Dulce before lunch. Her mother recently had a baby which Pastor Steve and Ellie both held. Next we enjoyed our sandwiches and chikys before we made the short walk from Gonzalez Park to John the Baptist Park. Many children there were playing and reading the books we brought with us, so we got to spend time with them before we started our faith lessons. Hayden and Ellie both had fan clubs and it was quite funny to see the swarms...
Today has been an eye-opening experience for our team.  We began our day with devotions after breakfast.  Devotions were led by one of the Guatemalan missionaries, Carlos.  Carlos burst into a song of praise during his devotions and touched many of our hearts.  We then visited a ministry focused on "street boys", called Only a Child.  The boys live 24/7 in this ministry and work by crafting beautiful wooden boxes.  They attend alternative school on the weekends so they can receive an education.  Many of the these "boys" are in their 20s and are still working on their junior high education.  This ministry is started by a man who was a pastry chef in Boston, George Leger, but now he works full time with this ministry.  The boys have to follow strict rules in order to receive their lodging, food, and education.  The team was then introduced to the Guatemala City dump.  This is a very large dump where people scavenge for anything that t...
We had a great day yesterday.  We had a wonderful breakfast fixed by our hostess Ginny then we went to a Guatamala Church, Sendero de la Cruz. We know the last word is cross. It was a great experience to see how the Guatemalans worship.  They had about 30 minutes of just praising and singing before the church service.  The service was about two hours in length. We spent the afternoon preparing a craft that will be used next week and unpacking and storing all the supplies we brought.  We also rehearsed our faith lesson we will be teaching the children in the villages this week.  The temperature was in the low 80's.  We are a mile high here so it seems warmer.  Connie And Greg visited their Quincy friend and family for dinner. The rest of the team remained at the mission house.  Bedtime devotions were on Beautiful Feet, Romans 10:12-13.
