Today was our biggest, busiest day of the week.  We returned to the city of Amatitlan, about an hours drive.  But to a location known as Gonzalez Park.  If you see the pictures on Facebook you will see that they use "park" very loosely.  Just a concrete slab with some concrete walls on two sides and an old broken basketball hoop.  Today we were joined by a group of students from Spring Arbor University in Michigan.  They are here in Guatemala for a 3 week cross cultural experience and spend one day with the ministry.  There were 20 college students in the group.  They went on home visits with us and then helped with the faith lesson.  They were a great group and an amazing help. , especially since today we had around 250 kids in the faith lesson.  It's amazing how you can actually get 250 kids from 6-11 years old to sit down, stay quiet and listen, but they do.  Everyone on the team continues to do an amazing job, having fun with the kids and leading parts of our faith lesson.  Today was no different, except that today we were showered the entire time with ash from a nearby volcano.  We were never in danger of anything, but there was enough smoke and stuff coming out to spread quite a bit of ash.  In our home visits I got to visit Dulce Maria today.  My family sponsors Dulce so she can attend school.  She is 11 years old and we have been supporting and in touch with her for three years.  It was especially good to get an update today.  She is number one in her class at school and she is growing in confidence.  She used to be so shy she could not look me in the eye and would barely whisper a word, now she will actually carry on a conversation.  God is truly working in her life.  But it also reminds me of the importance of relationship.  Even if it comes in very brief visits, spread out over time, I have formed a relationship with Dulce, her mom Angelica and her brothers.  That relationship is a blessing to me and my family and I pray to hers as well.  Relationships are important to God - our relationship with Him, first and foremost, but then with each other.  I am reminded that we all need to invest in relationships in our homes, our neighborhoods and our communities.  Then allow God to do His thing in the midst of them.  We have one more day to foster relationships with our final faith lesson tomorrow, then preparing for our return trip home.  It has been a fast week but truly blessed.  Thanks for all the prayers.

We had a great day yesterday.  We had a wonderful breakfast fixed by our hostess Ginny then we went to a Guatamala Church, Sendero de la Cruz. We know the last word is cross. It was a great experience to see how the Guatemalans worship.  They had about 30 minutes of just praising and singing before the church service.  The service was about two hours in length. We spent the afternoon preparing a craft that will be used next week and unpacking and storing all the supplies we brought.  We also rehearsed our faith lesson we will be teaching the children in the villages this week.  The temperature was in the low 80's.  We are a mile high here so it seems warmer.  Connie And Greg visited their Quincy friend and family for dinner. The rest of the team remained at the mission house.  Bedtime devotions were on Beautiful Feet, Romans 10:12-13.
Sunday, January 17, 2016 Today was a very relaxing day compared to yesterday. We woke up around 8:30 and got ready for church before breakfast at 9:00. After breakfast we finished getting ready and had a few minutes of downtime before we left for church at around 10:15. We got to church safe and sound thanks to our awesome driver Manuel. At church we got to sing some songs that we know, just not in our native language. The message was very good, coming from Nehemiah chapter 9:1-38. After church we visited with Carlos and his oldest daughter. Then when we got home we ate a delicious lunch of grilled cheese and organized all of the donations. Thank you SOO much to everyone who donated something to this trip, it will be used for great things! After organizing the donations the ladies spent some time getting crafts ready for the kids to do during their faith lessons later in the week. Then we had about 2 hours of downtime to nap and reorganize our bags. I spent some quality time with...

Tuesday

Today was a wonderful day. We woke up pretty early (I woke up around 6) and got ready for the day. At exactly 7am we had breakfast, holiday inn express Quincy style, minus the waffle maker, just the way we like it (if you know Kevin you get it). I had lots of coffee to wake me up. After breakfast and before devotions I got to visit with Sandra and Aracely. Sandra braided my hair, which is one of the best parts of coming down here (totally kidding), and then we went upstairs to "the upper room" for morning devotions, led by Aracely. She spoke about callings from God vs career choice. After devotions we went and put sun sauce and bug sauce on before choosing our van wisely (I got the van with the AC and got put next to quite a few Guatemalans, so I chose wisely). I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I am starting college this fall with the hopes of becoming an OB/GYN. Aracely is 7 months pregnant, and I was right between her and Sandra o...
