Yesterday was somewhat of a sad day for us.  After morning devotions we said our goodbyes to the missionaries.  They are all Guatemalans who live here in Guatemala City with their families except for Kevin and Ginny.  Many of them travel more than an hour by bus each day to do the work here in Groundwork Guatemala.  They are such great people working for the Lord, each with their own unique talents and abilities. We will keep them in our daily prayers from here on out. We each shared a bible verse wiith them to encourage and build them up.  We held a prayer time for them to pray for each of them and the work they do here. We took many group photos of our LCOSJ team with the missionaires.

Another nice experience we had yesterday morning was going to the Godfrey Coffee Company. We learned how coffee is obtained from the cherries processed, roasted and packaged for shipment.  We learned about some of the lives of the owners, the coffee plantations and the life around the coffee plantations.

In the afternoon we had adults, youth, and children from Guatemala City come to the ministry house for a faith lesson.  Pastor Steve shared with the adults and the LCOSJ team did our Good Samaritan faith lesson. We also helped the youth missionary prepare a craft for next week. You will have to ask us about this when we return.

The plan was to have a mystery dinner on the roof but a rain storm rolled in.  Our mystery dinner was pizza and was a big hit with the younger members of our group.

Our evening devotions included a reflection time of our week and was a vey good exercise for the group.

Much of the time before bed was spent in packing in preparation for today,s trip to Antigua.

We will be home late late Sunday.

This will be our last blog from Guatemala City.

Tuesday

Today was a wonderful day. We woke up pretty early (I woke up around 6) and got ready for the day. At exactly 7am we had breakfast, holiday inn express Quincy style, minus the waffle maker, just the way we like it (if you know Kevin you get it). I had lots of coffee to wake me up. After breakfast and before devotions I got to visit with Sandra and Aracely. Sandra braided my hair, which is one of the best parts of coming down here (totally kidding), and then we went upstairs to "the upper room" for morning devotions, led by Aracely. She spoke about callings from God vs career choice. After devotions we went and put sun sauce and bug sauce on before choosing our van wisely (I got the van with the AC and got put next to quite a few Guatemalans, so I chose wisely). I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I am starting college this fall with the hopes of becoming an OB/GYN. Aracely is 7 months pregnant, and I was right between her and Sandra o...
Sunday, January 17, 2016 Today was a very relaxing day compared to yesterday. We woke up around 8:30 and got ready for church before breakfast at 9:00. After breakfast we finished getting ready and had a few minutes of downtime before we left for church at around 10:15. We got to church safe and sound thanks to our awesome driver Manuel. At church we got to sing some songs that we know, just not in our native language. The message was very good, coming from Nehemiah chapter 9:1-38. After church we visited with Carlos and his oldest daughter. Then when we got home we ate a delicious lunch of grilled cheese and organized all of the donations. Thank you SOO much to everyone who donated something to this trip, it will be used for great things! After organizing the donations the ladies spent some time getting crafts ready for the kids to do during their faith lessons later in the week. Then we had about 2 hours of downtime to nap and reorganize our bags. I spent some quality time with...
Today has been an eye-opening experience for our team.  We began our day with devotions after breakfast.  Devotions were led by one of the Guatemalan missionaries, Carlos.  Carlos burst into a song of praise during his devotions and touched many of our hearts.  We then visited a ministry focused on "street boys", called Only a Child.  The boys live 24/7 in this ministry and work by crafting beautiful wooden boxes.  They attend alternative school on the weekends so they can receive an education.  Many of the these "boys" are in their 20s and are still working on their junior high education.  This ministry is started by a man who was a pastry chef in Boston, George Leger, but now he works full time with this ministry.  The boys have to follow strict rules in order to receive their lodging, food, and education.  The team was then introduced to the Guatemala City dump.  This is a very large dump where people scavenge for anything that t...
