So we started off the day by waking up between 7 and 7:30 in the morning because breakfast was served Holliday Inn style (minus the waffles).  From there we went to the location that we were having our faith lesson and working with the children.  The location was called El Rincon and when we arrived we unloaded our gear and left the vans to find the bathroom.  First of all the bathroom was in the yard of this nice man who's name is Carlos.  Second of all it was basically a hole in the ground with raised walls around it so you could sit down.  That was interesting, definitely didn't plan on going #2 while I was there.  After we learned where the bathroom was I got to pull some water out of a well that was extremely deep.  The thing about this water was the fact that because we were so close to an active volcano it was all hot water not cold.  From Carlos' house we went to Francisca's house who is the little girl that Bill and Linda sponsor.  That was very interesting, not only seeing the house that she lived in but also seeing her family.  Her and her mother were very grateful for what Bill and Linda were doing and it definitely opened up my eyes seeing some of the situations that these children have to live in.  After that home visit we went back to the area where we would be doing the faith lesson with the kids and ate some lunch.  While eating lunch I found these disks of Dragon Ball Z characters that one of Manuel's children, Bequer, was playing with earlier so I decided to collect them and give them to him when we got back to the house.  After lunch the fun began, lets just say that playing with these kids makes working at Bonkers a walk in the park.  It was actually really funny because this was maybe the second time that I had to actually teach people how to throw a football.  Its crazy because back home its common knowledge but out here its a totally foreign concept.  After all the kids showed up Oscar used some kind of magic or something to get everyone to calm down and just sit down while we did the faith lesson.  In the end the faith lesson was definitely well received and went off without a hitch, except for a case of runaway balloons, but that was taken care of pretty quickly.  After the faith lesson we packed up and headed back to the house where pastor Hayden decided to tell some lies that got me into trouble with some of the missionaries on the car ride home.  When we got home I gave Bequer his new characters and he was extremely excited about it.  After lunch him and I were playing a game using the disks that I'm still not totally sure how to win because he made it up and he also keeps winning.  George also came by to leave an order form for the boxes and crosses.  After George left we had a very interesting devotion on favorites and how playing favorites is a bad thing.  And that was the day, very eventful and very fun.

Today has been an eye-opening experience for our team.  We began our day with devotions after breakfast.  Devotions were led by one of the Guatemalan missionaries, Carlos.  Carlos burst into a song of praise during his devotions and touched many of our hearts.  We then visited a ministry focused on "street boys", called Only a Child.  The boys live 24/7 in this ministry and work by crafting beautiful wooden boxes.  They attend alternative school on the weekends so they can receive an education.  Many of the these "boys" are in their 20s and are still working on their junior high education.  This ministry is started by a man who was a pastry chef in Boston, George Leger, but now he works full time with this ministry.  The boys have to follow strict rules in order to receive their lodging, food, and education.  The team was then introduced to the Guatemala City dump.  This is a very large dump where people scavenge for anything that they can sell for money.   People f

Thursday

This morning many of us experienced our first earthquake. It was a rather large one, but was focused in other parts of Guatemala so we only felt a little shaking. After a grab and go breakfast of fruit and cereal, Carlos led devotion. He reminded everyone to acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and moved us with his beautiful singing. We took about an hour's drive to Gonzalez Park in the vans. Sharon got to meet her sponsor child this morning, which she enjoyed very much. A group of us also went to visit Pastor Steve's sponsor child Dulce before lunch. Her mother recently had a baby which Pastor Steve and Ellie both held. Next we enjoyed our sandwiches and chikys before we made the short walk from Gonzalez Park to John the Baptist Park. Many children there were playing and reading the books we brought with us, so we got to spend time with them before we started our faith lessons. Hayden and Ellie both had fan clubs and it was quite funny to see the swarms of children sur
We arrived in Guatemala City at about 9:30 PM. We passed through immigration and customs with no hassel.  No line at this time of day.  Guatemala does not do Daylight Savings time so we are an hour behind Quincy. It was beautiful flying in over the city at night.  We saw fireworks from the air. I'm sure they were not there for our arrival. Our hosts Kevin and Ginny met us at the airport in a truck and a van. It was a short 15 minute trip to the mission house.  We got oriented to the house and sleeping quarters tonight. It has been a long day and everyone is tired but still excited to be here. We will attend church at a Guatemalan Church in the morning. Good night to all.
